Started trying Duolingo chess just for fun since I'm already a decent chess player. Finding it really annoying because it will give a vague command and then tell me I wrong for not doing the exact move it wants. For example there was one where it just said move your pawn to the center, but there are eight different pawns you can move. For no apparent reason the only correct answer was to move the King's pawn. Has anyone figured out how to tell what they want you to do?

Duoling Chess is really annoying
Re: Duoling Chess is really annoying
I just don't use it it makes no sense to lean chess using a language platform that just has chess as a side feature rather than on actual chess focused sites

I know, it's so annnoying. Or it tells me to capture a piece, but not specifying which one, which of course makes me want to capture the highest ranked one.
Sometimes the clue is in the previous lesson, like the one you mentioned with the King's Pawn: My previous one was "open for the bishop". But I could still have started with the Queen's Pawn IMO, and cleared a path for my Bishop.

I haven’t decided to play chess with Duolingo yet, and I think it’s a waste of time (it would be better to spend it learning a language). I think so!
...and by the way, I encourage you to watch this video:

It's ridiculous. You have to use the hints 24/7 if you want to do anything cause it's giving vague commands while expecting a certain answer/move. Not to mention, most of the things it's teaching or just most of the lessons are either incorrect or just make no sense. For example, it said I checkmated the King with a pawn when the pawn was two squares to the left of the King and 3 down. It was in no position to checkmate or take the King. It's been the same with a lot of techniques that make no sense. I've never played chess and ''Castled'' my King. The piece can only move one square at a time so how would it move 2 or 3 to switch places to hide behind a Rook. These ''lessons'' just feel like free xp. If I took anything from these lessons into a real game, it would be like playing UNO with someone and each of us using our own house rules.
