"gift" originally meant in in Middle High German as well as in Old High German "Gabe, Geschenk", as it does today in English. The fact that poison was originally a feminine noun meaning "Geschenk" (as can still be seen from the English gift) is demonstrated by the word "Mitgift", that which is given to the bride in marriage", which still has the old feminine article "die". It was not until the 16th century that the word became neuter in the meaning "poison".

Chinese: 盘子 (Pánzǐ) = plate
Italian: pance = bellies

ok: the pronounciation is a bit different but nevertheless I have always this association: first fill many "盘子" to then fill many "pance"

I prefer it when a Pole offers me "tort" than when a French tells me I have "tort".
