Friend streak lost

Post by SweNedGuy »

Early this week I lost one of my friend streaks. However when I had a look to her profile, there had not been a single day without at least some lesson(s) done. I really don't understand why the friend streak was terminated.

Another weird thing: one of my friend streaks is never (ever) shown as "extended" even 1 minute before midnight, yet it never ends.

One possibility is they unfriended you, then refriended you. I do this when I find out they're a nudger. They could have done this for other reasons than the one I gave.

One possibility is time zone. Midnight in Europe is late afternoon in Cali.

And sometimes we get unfriended wen we accidentally click the nudge button

Losing a friend streak on Duolingo despite consistent activity can be frustrating. A few reasons might explain why this happened:

  1. Timing of Lessons

Duolingo's streaks are based on completing lessons within a 24-hour window, not calendar days. If a lesson was done late one day and early the next, it might appear as continuous activity, but the system could perceive a gap.

  1. Synchronization Issues

Sometimes, the app doesn't immediately sync progress due to internet connectivity issues. If lessons were completed offline and not synced before the streak timer reset, the activity might not have registered.

  1. Glitch in the System

While rare, there are occasional bugs in Duolingo that may lead to streak losses. This could involve delayed updates in the friend's activity display or server issues.

  1. Requirement Differences

If your friend's streak depends on a specific amount of XP, activity on the profile might reflect lessons completed but not necessarily enough to meet the streak goal.

What you can do:

Contact Support: Duolingo has a help center where you can submit a ticket to report the issue. Include details like your friend's username, the dates in question, and screenshots if possible.

Double-Check Streak Freezes: Confirm if your friend used a "streak freeze." If not, this might have been an accidental oversight.

Could a friend streak also be terminated if your friend temporarily goes private to postpone league entry while doing some lessons on Monday and then switch to public again?

Yes, of course. I lost all of my friend streaks when I was in private mode.
That's the reason why I better refuse friendstreaks. I don't want to disappoint anyone for whom this special play factor is important.

Fun hack: if you cross midnight, you can change your timezone and everything works. Just make sure you change your timezone before you open the app.

I'm on a organization-operated Chromebook. Settings are blocked, so I can't switch timezones. I'm also unable to follow anyone due to my organization email.
