Can someone explain the streak refill to me please

It says as of today September 2nd, 2024 refill in 13 days. I have not used the streak in the year 2023 or 2024. I went to click on it last year and this year to use, but it said refill in 54 days when I tried last year. This year I have not used it and when I tried again to use it, it said another long months before I could use it. I reached out to Duolingo support to ask what is going on and what am I missing? If I have not clicked on anything to use the streak to save my count, how is it saying refill in a few months as if I have used anything. I used the streak once back in 2022, I've never used it since then. I've tried but it will not allow me to use it. It always says refill and it gives me at least 3 months before I can use it even though I have not used it since 2022. I'm coming on here now since it says 3 Extra freezes - Additional protection for your streak if you miss a day of practice. Refills in 13 days. When I did need to use it, it would not let me. I clicked on it and it said that refill in more than 3 months. I said to myself wow what good is this if you can't use it. It also says You’ve extended your streak 6 times before noon this week! (HOW)? How did I extend my streak 6 times before noon this week? I wish I knew. I tried to reach out multiple time and get no answers back. Thanks for any help with this.

@PeanutBSNM7139 @MoniqueMaRie This Streak refill is nothing but one of many Duolingo sick jokes. You can buy 2 Streak freezes for your gems and normally, you cannot have more Streak freezes than that. Duolingo promises to give you 3 extra Streak freezes for free each 100th day od your Streak. If you do not waste your 2 standard Streak freezes and are lucky, you end up with 5 Streak freezes on your 100th day. That sounds great, but you can definitely forget about collecting enough Streak freezes to spend your vacation without Duolingo, because Duolingo never keeps its promises. If you do not waste these 3 free Streak freezes until your 200th day, Duolingo will never give you any other any more. Even if you use them later. I used to complain to Duolingo Help about it every 100th day of my Streak, I succeeded the third time and was (only once!!!) granted those 3 free Streak freezes I was supposed to be getting automatically, but since then, I am getting none free Streak freezes again and Duolingo Help keeps ignoring me. This is how it works for me: no free Streak freezes given ever again, but each 100th day, the count to the day when I am supposed to be given "new" 3 free Streak freezes starts from 100 again.

I do not understand, how can Duolingo have a course on Mathematics, because it cannot count even to 7: you are supposed to get double for your 50 gems, if you keep your Streak for 7 days, but in reality, you have to keep your Streak for 8 days to receive that reward (complain to Duolingo Help as much as you like, nothing will ever change). How can you expect this super-bugged stupid Duolingo owl to give you something on your 100th day regularly? :-/

I will do my best to describe how it works for one of my accounts.

When you start an account on Duolingo these days you can have up to two streak freezes to protect your streak on days which you fail to extend your streak. FWIW, when I started with Duolingo it was only a single streak freeze. A couple of years ago, Duo introduced the Streak Society. One of the rewards in the Streak Society is that after you streak reaches 100 days, you earn three extra streak freezes, bringing your maximum up to five streak freezes. These extra 3 streak freezes refill every 100 days.

So how does this work in action. These days I have two accounts that I play. One my principal account which is now 13 days shy of 2500 day streak (pats self on head), and a second account that I started about two years ago to test how a few features work on Duolingo and then for some reason started to actually play seriously. Obviously something is wrong with me if I feel the need to play two separate accounts, but let's not psychoanalyze me right now, instead lets talk about how the extra 3 streak freezes played out in the last couple of days on this second account.

In this second Duolingo account I am not quite as diligent as I am with my primary account and sometimes I miss days. In the last three months I have missed two days on this account and used two streak freezes. Two days ago, when I went into the Duolingo Shop, Duo showed me that I had 3/3 active streak freezes on this account instead of 5/5 I would have had if I hadn't used these two streak freezes. Looking at the Streak Society, it told me that my extra 3 streak freezes would refill in 1 day! So, yesterday one would expect these streak freezes to refill and I would be back to 5/5 active streak freezes. Looking the Streak Society I saw that it now said my extra 3 streak freezes would refill in 100 days, although curiously I still only had 3/3 of active streak freezes. However, as of this morning when I enter the Duolingo Shop I am back up to 5/5 active streak freezes. I don't know why it took a day for the refill to actually take place, however, if I had to guess, I would assume that there is some process that kicks off once a day to do these refills into peoples accounts and that it just hadn't run yet when I looked yesterday. But in the end, at last for my account the streak freeze refill worked and this account is back to having 5 streak freezes.

One takeaway from this is that streak refill is an automated process. There is nothing that I did to engage the streak refill. It may look like a button in the app or on the web, but there isn't anything to click on here (at least on the web or Android, I don't have an iPhone to comment on how it might look or operate there). I must also say that I don't know what happens to these streak refills if you break your streak. Perhaps one day I will test that out with this account.

I've recently missed several days (not in a row) and every time I went to the store to get a freeze it said that I already have all the freezes apparently now if you're a regular learner it's virtually impossible to lose the streak

It is possible but it takes longer. With a ~ 70 day streak 4 days off were not enough. It looked like the 5th day would do but I did a lesson on the fifth day inadvertently and my streak was extended. About a year ago I needed about 6 days to break a 100 day streak.

I don't remember how many days I had to stop using the app in order to reset my streak, but it felt exactly as you say… virtually impossible!

But only people who already have a high streak seem to get this offer.

Just yesterday I spoke to a person who told me, very disappointed, that she had unfortunately lost her 40-day streak and was now back at 2.

Refills in 26 days
If I never click on to use any of my freezes, I need to use a freeze, how do I use it if there isn't any anything for me to click on? It says refill in 26 days, I never click to not have it filled. When I have needed to use it, I never have any opportunity to use them. I also can't get anyone at Duolingo to answer or respond when I have sent emails to ask about this. I've never been able to use any streaks on my account. I check everyday and it always says refill in a certain amount of days. Does anyone know what to do if I want to not lose my streaks. I have a strange feeling that the person who said it's a scam, and there is actually no way to use your streak free days unless you pay, I believe them now that I've never been able to use it. Also Duolingo has never responded to my emails when asking a question about it. They never answered about anything that I've ask. I'm glad I would never spend any money for there site or on there site.
