We now have a transcript of every single Duolingo story from every course - for those who couldn't go all the way through their path and thus cannot open every step and every story available. Now you can read them a few years earlier than you normally would.

The best thing about stories (and how they're done in the backend) is how easy it would be to make a fully functional adaptation of any strory for any other language, even those not included in Duolingo, or build our own completely new stories in the same manner.

The initial set of 10000+ stories from currently available language pairs took slightly more than a week to be added - that is one story per minute / 1440 stores a day / a bit more than 10K stories in a bit more than a week.

For older stories currently missing in our courses you need to know the original links if hopefully they were recorded by someone somewhere.

Adding a story to duome is as simple as replacing duolingo.com with duome.eu in the original link, then copy and paste it into your browser and let duome take care of everything else - it's totally automated.

A slightly enhanced Duolingo Tree tab with crowns and short descriptions:

  • now split in sections
  • grammar skills are now included :geek:
  • crown levels have their respective colors, though I prefer it a bit more "monochrome", like on the first screenshot,
which will actually be the default look for all newer courses having 2 crown levels maximum
  • personalized according to your current tree data - may not be fully in sync with your path if your tree was changed
  • changed skills are shown in grey - they're stuck at zero crowns, much like those missing lessons, both cannot :?: be updated unless you're brave enough to reset your course...

@Thomas.Heiss, what does that Typermonkey script actually do? Does it really bring back all six crown levels or can it fix missing lessons when you practice them, or is it only a cosmetic thing?

Oof... Is there any way to get this fixed other than resetting the course? Or will resetting it at least get a new date of when it started/finished on our duome profiles? Because I have to reset every single one, it seems.

I didn't manage to fix it on my account no matter how long I tried practicing those skills.
At least those changed skills or skills with missing lessons do allow practicing them, which should be anyone's primary concern.

Resetting is for perfectionists like me - I'm going to try it with something where I'm just getting started (and it's already all changed).
Yet, resetting something that has 3 to 6 crown levels would only allow 2 crowns max after the restart - that's another reason to not do it.

Don't know about the dates, but I'll pay attention.

Some observations:

Strangely enough even newly added courses can have "changed" skills, they are being kind of "skipped" putting my progress further down the path, even though I only did one test lesson in the very first skill and I never went deeper down.

I initially had it in multiple newly added courses but these "changed" labels are gone now - I didn't do anything at all to make it happen, I just reloaded the data a few days later, so it appears that duolingo data is changing without any effort on our part and all those errors could be cleared one day - in theory.

If changed skills are there, but there are no normal/finished (non-grey) skills after them, such skills can be cleared by gradually doing your lessons as usual - through and past all the units containing the affected skills.

If changed skills appear before any normal/finished skill, they cannot be cleared - I tried doing the affected skills in both practice (+5xp) and legendary modes, I tried doing the entire skill (unit), I also tried doing the entire next unit on the path, but none of this would help.

So I went on to reset the course and:

  • yes, resetting the course clears "changed" skills
  • xp points are substracted from the total upon deletion of the course, word count is reduced as well (understandably)
  • "learned_ts" timestamps are gone, they're not even there in duolingo data anymore, so new dates will not be assigned

New BBCodes for flags - hosted on duome, so they should always be available - might be better if we use them in our signatures for some consistency (not a requirement, just a suggestion).

This one is for old-fashioned rounded flags:
[lang="fr"][/lang]

This one is a bit more customizable, and I think I could make it in different sizes if necessary:
[flags="it"][/flags] or [flags="ca from_es"][/flags] for a single flag or a pair of languages

The source is the original Duolingo SVG for flags so it won't have something that is not currently on Duolingo.

Looking good! Would've preferred the Portugal flag, but I can live with the Brazilian one :D
