How the hell can someone get 45000 XP in less than a week?

We are not Duolingo, we cannot solve any problems directly, but we can provide community-based advice.

Oh btw, I got an email back today (my old vserver is gone with Mta and Zarafa :-( ) from a DL staff member dealing with an ABUSE report.

Found a crazily cheating user from 2025 (created) mentioned on Duome Shof list.

The user created his/her account in 2025, racked up millions of XPs in one language and had two streaks with an invalid data; the blue refresh button added a big number to the first big streak number.

...Crazy stuff is going on with Duolingo...

Raw XP data showed me that the user managed to score 499Xp each session every 1-2 seconds.

Thankfully DL staff quickly stepped into. It clearly was cheating/scripting.

Now the only question is how to permanently delete this user data on @duome as the account now reports back "privacy mode / no response".

Never have I seen such a completely unbelievable streak data from a recently joined (new) user account.
Doubt it that it will be the last one.

They can have whatever streak they would like to fake, then it's getting stored in duome db, then based on the recorded values the username is gettting blocked (you can see their streak in gray, with an "impossible" comment next to it).

In the XP hall of fame it's grayed out as well - there are four diffent kurumis up there at the top, all grayed out.

I see that the entire first page of duome.eu/xp is grayed out - I think I should move them all into duome.eu/impossible

This applies only to duome, not Duolingo. Having their account blocked on Duolingo is a different story.

@Thomas.Heiss, what was the username?

Is it allowed to post the links to Duome "profiles" here? This weeks tournament qualification does look quite crazy - 4 out of the 8 qualifiers will be "suspect" users. I'm the number 5 :geek:

How is the raw data gathered, does DL expose it officially? Do they maybe agregate it at some point if there is lot of records for a day? This guy seems to run both a script getting 10XP every couple of seconds at the moment, and something that posts implausible large XP. numbers The other 3 seem to be doing "large numers" only.

Duolingo does expose the data, duome shows what's already public.

I don't usually get that bothered about the leagues, but I recently got suckered into a race to the top of a diamond league. (and yeah, I won 😊 !!)

But yeah..... I did notice on the following Monday that the top two players were already in the hundreds of thousands of XP when I joined in...not even lunchtime!

I got about 3100 today, maybe a bit more. Just from doing Listen-Up practices, on the language I'm learning. I imagine if you cheat and do your own language, you can get significantly more if your thing is wasting time just to win on the leaderboards.

Honestly, now that I know leaderboards are rigged, I wont be worried about them anymore.

Dear FurianXO:

Doing a reverse tree (ie: I study Chinese/English but I also do English/Chinese) can be very helpful. I find the English/Chinese to be very hard sometimes because it means learning the English using Chinese and that is testing my Chinese. I have also found my learning improved when I took my profile into private mode which turned off the leader boards which had been a huge distraction for me. That was very much wasting my time. Now I focus on my own pace and learning which is working well for me. I wish you luck on your language learning, stay focused and committed.

Someone with a 1M XP in one language will probably know more than someone with 10K in the same language.

But it seems XP alone is not a good indicator of language prowess, for I recently saw people well beyond 100K XP (even 1M) and level under 30 for languages that have longer and more complete courses such as French, which is equivalent to just starting A2 according to Duolingo. So, still a beginner...

I was worried with my poor knowledge of Italian after (supposedly) learning 2600 words of it, but I just attained this level 30, which is the currently maximum for learning Italian from Portuguese. Because of that, I started learning Italian from English to try to strengthen that knowledge even by a little.
Therefore that says more about (my lack of) prowess than the bare word count or XP.

Duolingo could move it's focus a little away from that XP thing and provide higher levels at least for the half dozen languages that have good courses
(English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and maybe Portuguese).

45,000 XP in a week? Must be a newbie. This user pulls in 90,000 - 120,000 a day:
