Request language? "Cebuano (Bisaya)"

Post by Lynge »

Not sure if this is already here, i tried to search and look but i couldn't find anything? So i'm trying anyways
Also heard from around the internet that it basically helps nothing to requests a language because they will do nothing about it but ohwell.

I would though.. Wish that the app had more languages in general but in this particular case i'd really like the app to have Cebuano or also known "Bisaya" Or at least Tagalog but even that is not in there,

It seems that there's a lot of languages missing from the app in general which is very sad

But i guess i can't do much more than hope it'll get there :)

Hi @Lynge !
Unfortunately, this forum has no direct connection with DL stuff, and most likely they won't read your request.
You can use their social media or submit a report at https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new.
But what I read lately was:

Luis von Ahn -- Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Yeah. That's a great question. It is a huge opportunity. If you look at just the total language learning market, the majority of it is people learning English.

And many of these people do want something more advanced than just beginner stuff. So, this is why we're working a lot on adding a lot more content to our English courses. And yes, that's the -- I think it's just a major opportunity. And it's a weird thing because if you look at where our revenue comes from, the majority of our revenue comes from -- for example, half our revenue roughly comes from the United States.

These are usually not people learning English. They're learning kind of Spanish or French, etc. But if you look at the language learning market as a whole, it's highly skewed toward people learning English in non-English-speaking countries. So, you see them.

I know they were planning Tagalog a long time ago before the forums closed, but seems that slipped by the wayside.

Here is a free app I have made to learn Cebuano vocabulary words:

https://letjesusbeexalted.web.app/ceb.html

At this time there are 4 groups of 96 word pairs to learn/study

I plan on there being closer to 50-100 groups

However I still need to prepare these groups

If I have time I may add audio, however I may need to make it an app on the Android Play store to save money

@Corinnebelle

OkyDoky from "Heylingo OU" lists Filipino:

https://apps.apple.com/de/app/okydoky-l ... 27?l=en-GB

The store only shows yearly subscription prices, no one-time/ LIFETIME membership.

I'll link the app in the Apple store here for reference as the Google Play store doesn't show ANY prices; only when you start the app and access the in-app payment buttons you see some prices listed with the trial activation.

Yeah, I'd love to see Cebuano on Duolingo too! It's such a widely spoken language in the Philippines. In the meantime, if you're looking to learn Bisaya, I found a site called https://www.learnbisaya.net/ that might be helpful while we wait (or hope!) for Duolingo to add it.
