What are some words that you have adopted from your target language?

Are there any words that you have adopted from your target language, and now use them everyday?

Poll ended at Tue May 31, 2022 1:42 am

Yes, I do that, there are about three or four words from my target language that it is now a habit for me to use everyday.

Yes! I love to incorporate my language skills into real life, I try to make it a point to use words from my target language when speaking.

I try, but I really don’t know my TL that well.

Are you kidding me? I have enough trouble with my native language, how am I supposed to make it a habit to speak two?

No, frankly, I haven’t thought of doing that.

If you have made it a habit to use words from your TL every day, it would be wonderful if you could share which words you use, and their meanings!

Well, I use some Russian words with my cats (who are from Moscow), but that's it so far. I'm just a beginner, so it isn't easy, but I try.

I guess, in public there are only a view words which I use once in while, and these are not very exiting. You can't use words which other people will not understand :D. But, in my thoughts I use more. For example, as the pandemic started I learnt through reading of Spanish News the whole pandemic vocabulary and I therefore I use "mascarilla". Funny enough, I still looking for good Gernan translation for some expressions, e.g. "pauta completa" is very nice little term which could be translated in that context as "vollständig geimpft" (fully vaccinated), but I guess you will never figure that out by only looking it up in a dictionary.

My cats love it! But they were between 2-4 years old when I adopted them, so Russian is their "human mother's tongue". Actually Cevi, my little Oreo cat, shows interest in Dutch, too.

Actually her name is Cevi, but she is mainly black with a little white at her chin, throat and breast as well as her paws. Kinda like an Oreo cookie... Lots of black with a bit white.

Apparently , I’m going to have to write administrator here.

I have answered this question twice and I keep getting booted off.

Thanks Jacko - I hit remember me each time and it works only sometimes. :)

One of my cats loves milk, so I frequently ask her, if she want some in Russian. And I greet them in the morning in Russian as well as saying good night to them.

I played Skyrim in Polish and found out that scaly pholiota is simply called łuskwiak in the Polish localization. Łuskwiak describes any mushroom of the Pholiota genus. That Latin name is a bit difficult for me, so I often think about it as łuskwiak now.
