kínálni -val/-vel engem vs. (fel)ajánlani -t neki

Post by MagyarJános »

(A férje) (kávéval) (kínál) (engem).
(Her husband) (with coffee) ("she" offers) (me dir obj).
Her husband offers me coffee....

(A férje) (alkut) (ajánl) (nekem).
(Her husband) (a deal) (offers) (to me).
Her husband offers me a deal.

So...kínálni offers "with" (-val/-vel) to a direct object person "engem".
And....(fel)ajánlani offers a direct object noun "to someone" (nekem, neked).

When is kínálni used versus ajánlani?

There is a fair bit of overlap but the primary meaning of ajánl is to recommend or suggest. This can then mean offer for sale. While kínál is primarily to offer something physical - a coffee, a seat, food BUT can also mean to offer for sale or put something up for sale.

Wrt case, this is why you need to lean the verbs with the objects ie
ajánl valamit valakinek
kínál valakit valamivel
