Re: Bye bye Negativity

“Newby” forum sounds cool with a sticky or two and maybe a thread called “Introductions” for those who want to share a bit about their journey. (Perhaps we already have such a thread going somewhere.)

Re: Bye bye Negativity

And just fyi i did go through the disillusioning experience myself of posting something objectively innocuous on duolingo forum and seeing it downrated absurdly. It was indeed off-putting.

Re: Bye bye Negativity

If Graham is right and downvoting has an important role at some point - when volume gets intense - perhaps one might require someone to at least go through an additional hurdle before downrating. Like: Write a comment about why you are downrating this. Then a mod could rate a downrating based on the...

Re: Bye bye Negativity

What will duolingo look like ten, twenty years in the future? They’ve done away with their forum for now, but they may start a new one in the future or acquire another. Like this one perhaps. One never knows!

Re: Reflections on US Secondary Language study and a school where children learned Swahili

Once again I embarrass myself on here with my precipitous writings! Haha. Thanks for correcting my false impression. I hope something decent remains in my post despite my misinformation.

Reflections on US Secondary Language study and a school where children learned Swahili

Duolingo has a recent article about which states in the United States are focused most on which language. No offense to the French language but it is sort of strange that most USAmericans study it as their second language. Why French? [edit: Ahem. cough cough As pointed out to me below, French is th...

Re: Wow this forum looks amazing…

What I’m really just loving is the beautiful and welcoming universality of each language listed alphabetically with all its subforums listed. It’s beyond what I’d imagined possible already. So nice!

Ithkuil

One of my favorite all time articles.

After reading it, I ordered a hard copy of Ithkuil which is available online for free.

Re: Rating Posts

Ah!! So that’s how it works. How confusing. So posts that appear poorly rated are actually highly rated because they have thumbs ups attached to them? Yes, I appreciate you moving it to troubleshooting. Thanks!

This forum’s announcement…

Wondering where the post announcing this forum went to at the official duolingo forum. Is it just me or did it disappear?

Rating Posts

How do you rate posts? Also: If we’re going to allow people to rate posts and topics, would it be a bad idea to show who rated what and how much?

Re: Will Duolingo remove a course in the future?

One thing that has surprised me is the slow down of introducing new languages. Somewhere it was announced that they would only be paying people to work on language modules, which would include reimbursing some for work already done. Which I saw as a good thing. But in the latest duocon, it was annou...

Re: Will Duolingo remove a course in the future?

For a long, long time, Swahili had no voices to go with it. This was actually an appeal for me because it allowed me to listen to podcasts on my phone while doing duolingo. Now Swahili has several voices and there have been additions - especially in the idiom section - just in the last year.

Re: Will Duolingo remove a course in the future?

Pretty sure we can expect that the Navajo course, like the Hawaiian course, will only grow in the future (the CEO is extremely proud of indigenous languages) and I doubt very much if any languages will be removed.
