This blog : How to make a Gold Duolingo Tree describes Duolingo by the end of 2014. This was before crowns were introduced to the tree. Skill strength was a meaningful indicator back then. Strength lost its significance after the introduction of crowns and ended up being counterproductive. By now it...

Your avatar: what's the story behind.

According to what I have read on the forum for Portuguese speakers, Duo now is advising against using your photo as an avatar. As usual, privacy reasons are the pretext. Future releases may ban photos allowing to identify users. So what is your avatar: The photo in DL shows me ... The photo in DL sh...

Re: "Find Eddie 7 times"

Today it has been Lin who was to be found 7 times within lessons (apparently stories don't count). The first rounds of any unit contain many questions where hardly any of the cartoon characters show up (a lot of multiple choice vocab matching). You have the best chance with the rounds towards the en...

Re: DuoLingo mentions streak in its leaderboards

I've been seeing that for a while. But only for streaks that are a year or longer. That is exact. Streaks are mentioned in completed years. The new gamification element has now opened up for website users and it is called 'the streak society'. A little menu opens up when hovering over your streak s...

Re: Wrong data of the other language courses are tracked for a few users at several Duome ranking tables

My best guess is that Duolingo mislabels some courses. A Portuguese from English course gets labelled as 'Portuguese from Spanish'. It then gets in the wrong list and ends up on top, since it has many more skills than the Pt from Es. DuoMe only reads the information records from the notably error pr...

DuoLingo mentions streak in its leaderboards

You could always check the streak length in the weekly leaderboard by clicking any profile https://i.imgur.com/fBGTs0n.jpg Now Duolingo makes it really easy. The streak (in number of completed years) is added to names in the leaderboard. Are you among rookies or among seasoned DL learners? Just chec...

Re: How about 'Butterfly' in different European languages

'Cat' sounds quite similar in many European languages : https://forum.duome.eu/viewtopic.php?t=2876 Though the Romanian word for dog (câine) comes from Latin, cat (pisică ) seemingly does not. At the other hand, 'dog' has quite some variation in Romance languages: Spanish: el perro Standard Catalan...

Duolingo made a blog on this variety of the word for butterfly in different languages I started the thread with some of the few similarities (since variety is the rule, rather than the exception). In Dutch there is quite some dialectal variation for the word. One variant is 'schoenlapper' (translate...

As I review the current stories in the courses having them: they are always in the instruction language...
