Re: Update across all language courses?: split into smaller units

the only merit I've got from this update is, now I have more chance to get 15-min double xp boost...... and it's kinda useful, at least for non-super users like me.

Re: Classical Chinese stories with English translation (informal)

让我润色一下你的译文: 在某个春天,一位农民受到了蚜虫的困扰,于是花了很多钱从富翁那里买了瓢虫。瓢虫吃蚜虫不够,于是就又回到了富翁那里。 That sounds very nice and crisp! 感恩! anytime! ;) I'm good at "refurbishing" Chinese sentences since I'm currently working as a worker of "cultural development of companies" and busying dealing with Chinese word...

Re: Classical Chinese stories with English translation (informal)

@ ararat-tempest 春日,某農夫惡多蚜,破家向高門求瓢蟲。瓢蟲食蚜卻之不厭,則飛歸高門。 I found this story a bit sarcastic. It's a dilemma of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. English translation: One spring day, a farmer was troubled by aphids and spent a lot of money to buy ladybugs from a rich man. The l...

Re: Languages you’ve enjoyed the most and/or were intuitive to learn?

I just read that someone enjoys Romanian, and I understand that it is similar to Spanish. My husband has a Romanian colleague. She says that she understands Italian without any problems though she never learned it. And since Italian and Spanish are similar, that probably also applies to Romanian an...

Re: English Tense

@ararat-tempest So like "before", "after", "later" something like that? Do the adverbs attach to the verbs or are they separate words? yes, you can add those adverbs if have to specify the time of the action. the position is very flexible just like Japanese. eg. 我昨天吃了苹...

ah, did you mean "冇"? this is Cantonese, it means "no", but also appears in Mandarin. I don't know "yes" in Cantonese. Blimey! Thanks, Ararat! That makes sense. But is it "Mao" or "Moh"? Or something else? Edit: No is "Mo" or "Moh&quo...

是(shì) & 否(fǒu), the tone is different, yeah, but the pronunciation is also different. vâng & không, same tone but different pronunciation. proved. The sound I used to hear a lot or the sound that stuck in my mind, sounded like "Mao-wah". That same sound was said in two distinctly...

Re: English Tense

alright, Indonesian or Malay never thought about verb tense. we Chinese too. but I prefer verbs with tense system tbh, you can express yourself more clearly. No tense at all? You must have to infer a lot? in order to show the situation of an action now, in the past, or in the future, just simply ad...

one of my Chinese duo friends always share the same sentence in Cantonese. I don't speak Cantonese but that sentense in English means,
"I don't wanna go outside, I wanna play video games at home."

if talking about Chinese expression of the internet, 233 is used more often. and people also use 233333333333, or 333333332. more 3s, more laughter.
(笑) and www are used more often for Japanese case. also, 笑 is "warai", not "wara". or use something like ( ´艸`) this.
