Re: Saying it wrong doesn't "feel" right

Grammar never was and never will be my friend, but I got a feeling what's wrong or right. Not just in my native language. Just last weekend I wrote a message to a friend in Russian. I had the inkling that one plural wasn't right, but couldn't find anything to verify. So, I used the plural I learned ...

121+ Russian Cognates to learn Russian fast (blog post)

Olly Richards had this post in his blog / newsletter and I think it might help beginners. Most of this I already figured out, but still it is good have this at hand.

Re: Your reason for duolingo?

Due to the repetitiveness I can move on and get the words / sentences hammered in my brain. At Lingodeer I had to actively review things. But to be honest, I take it as it is. The change from the tree to the path didn't bother me much. I use the app / source which helps me best at that moment. If li...

Re: Your reason for duolingo?

I forgot to answer you why I learn.... Well, call me crazy, but my 3 cats are all from Moscow and they were between 2-4 years when I adopted them. Russian is their "human mothers tongue" and it calms them - at specially at the vet clinic. Sure, I could have learned a few phrases, but it ne...

Re: Your reason for duolingo?

First of all, welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your time here! Well, I'm learning Russian and started with Duolingo and after 3-4 weeks I moved on. To Mondly. About a year later I returned to Duolingo and by now the course changed a lot compared to the one I started with. The newer version is ...

Re: Presentations

Try to find out what is causing your stress, than you can try to work on reducing.

Beside that, everybody is different. For some a long walk is best, for someone else it's a good workout. For me it's a good concert... Or a good book.
For many it's meditation, as Meli578588 said, for me it's not.

Re: How much practice do you need before it sticks?

Sometimes a Russian word just won't stick.... I write it on a piece of paper in big bold letters and stick it somewhere in my apartment where I see it several times a day. Usually that works to remember it after a few days.

Re: Do you read other replies to Original Posts?

I also read everything, if it's not several pages, as long as it's a language I know. But it might happen that I'm in a rush and want to answer immediately, in that case I state that I haven't read everything due to a lack of time before I write the reply.

Re: word order

Sometimes we just have to accept what Duo expects. I agree with Monique Marie, there nothing wrong. I experience the same with Russian which has a more flexible word order than German. We all have to deal with it!

Feel free to ask whenever you encounter problems with sentences in Duo.

To me the scandal is that nobody realized the mistake before it was published! Yes, she made a mistake, but it's not her profession to overdo photos. And if you worked on something for awhile you overlook things easily.

@HeyMarlana, in Germany Orange as well as Apfelsine are used. So I always have to make sure that in Dutch I use sinaasappel. 🤣 So, even if its about different languages, we both have a 'problem' with a word with has the same meaning.

@Basler Biker, thanks for the information and B&B offer. It's just not my kind of music. And I never liked the big festival, I prefer clubs up to 1,500-2,000 people. Vosselsaar and Verviers have small clubs with a great atmosphere.

It's true, sometimes you can just try to remember what Duolingo will accept. It's annoying.
