Hmm nevermind I answered my own question.

Diska is used exclusively for washing DISHES whereas Tvätta is for all OTHER forms of washing....

Well perhaps this post will help someone else in the future!

Tvätta means "wash" och Diska means "wash" but I assume they are used in different contexts?
