Re: How to "hahaha" in other languages :D
A few more tidbits about Thai. ๕๕๕๕ is the same as 5555 but used Thai numerical letter for five instead of Arabic numerical letter. Due to how Thai keyboard layout has to conform to English keyboard, the 5 key on English keyboard is the same key as the letter ถ on Thai counterpart. So if one forgets...

Re: How to say "I don't speak..." in different languages
🇹🇭 - พูดไทยไม่ได้ (pood-Thai-mai-dai), literally '(I) can't speak Thai' is the most natural way to put it. It's totally fine to omit the first person pronoun here. Direct translation of 'I don't speak Thai' would be '(whatever first pronoun of choice depending on gender and level of politeness) ไม่พ...

Re: Does every language "keep the bear in the bathroom"?
In Russian course typically it's bird(s) that eats apples if I remember correctly. Also, a fly/flies made appearance strangely quite frequent for me. Not to mention, the Russian course really loves giving mixed signals. Depending on day or the number of time you take the 'Animals' lesson, bird eithe...

Re: Does every language "keep the bear in the bathroom"?
From what I can recall in the Russian course, mostly the bear(s) just stays in the park. However, there are "My horse is an artist, and not an architect" and "My snake is at home" popping up quite often for me. Still haven't ventured far enough into the Ukrainian course to verify...

Re: Words that are actually company brands
Well, some that I can think of right now from Thailand are: 'Fab' for powder detergent. 'Mama' for instant ramen - Mama is the most succesful Thai brand of instant ramen, and funny thing is this trend of '×2 random word' for instant ramen brand is prevalent here. Besides Mama there are also Yum Yum,...

Re: I am your father (20 different versions)
Man, the Thai version is sort of expected but it still gives me a funny feeling that this quote probably belongs to some Thai fantasy/period TV series than Star Wars. The first and second person pronouns used here are rarely used in real life. They're rather archaic and carry subtle superiority/infe...
Re: Music:)
@Amlir Yup. The most particular case is when I took a liking of the song Selim Alakhyarov sang here in his Golos' audition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeEzXu2byz4 When I looked up for the original version, totally didn't expect to get sent to 'Soviet pop' from 1969 but it's fantastic nonetheles...
Re: Music:)
I do listen to lots of Russian music and I have listened to a bit of Kino and DDT. Can't say their music is my type, or maybe I only listened to too few songs. It's difficult to say what genre is my favorite since it spans from Амурские Волный, Улетай на Крыяльх Ветра to Maksim Fadeev, Aleksandr Pan...

Re: Foreign Language Education In Schools
In Thailand, English is taught as early as in kindergarten, though grammar and such won’t appear until in grade school. I’m not sure how much the secondary/junior high-high school has changed since I graduated. Back in my days, additional foreign languages are offered as combo programs for grade 10-...

Re: Saying Cat in Different Languages
In Thai, well... Typical word for cat you'll hear in everyday conversation: แมว (Maeo) Poetic, likely encountered in some literature or as a part of random people's name/surname: วิฬาร์ (Wi-la) For the sound cats make... yeah, Thais are being overly dramatic and have several assigned based on age/mo...

Re: How did you start learning the language?.
For English, I've learned it along with Thai since kindergarten but only for super easy words like apple, bee, cat, dog, etc. Not until grade 3 that the lessons started focusing on grammar. Still, similar to Amlir, playing games forced me to learn a lot outside of school, although I may also contrib...

Re: (Archive) Quiz: Which English do you speak?
@IceVijal 🤔 Now that you mentioned it, I think my experience is similar. Growing as a pre-teen/teenager in the 90s MTV era, I listened to lots of music from Michael Jackson and Janette Jackson, along with Whitney Houston and many more African-American artists since R&B was among my favorite genr...

Re: (Archive) Quiz: Which English do you speak?
Our top three guesses for your English dialect: US Black Vernacular / Ebonics New Zealandish South African Interesting, because this probably means I picked up a lot of my grammar preference from media since in Thailand there is a clear bias in employment of native English speaker teachers (mostly ...

Re: (Archive) What language should I learn next (Quiz)
I got Greek and Russian, but I’m already learning Russian. Still, yeah I do admit I have an interest in Greek, though I’m not sure how it fares against some other languages I also want to try learning some day (namely Hungarian and Georgian, perhaps Finnish, too, one day when I work up enough ...

Re: Language quizzes
Got 57/60 on Lao, except I'm a Thai who claim I hardly know the alphabet used in Lao except those that look super similar to the same letters in Thai. I guess the fact that I picked up random Isaan words (the regional language of northeast Thailand which is virtually the same root as Lao) from years...

Re: What are your Language Learning Goals for 2022?
I guess my priority is to continue solidifying my Russian basics. Don't want to set too much hope since my learning capability is affected by autism spectrum so my progress is always slow. Honestly, I don't think my Russian skill will become anywhere near decent until I keep hammering on memorizing ...

Re: Flags
Thailand's flag doesn't show up with :th: also. I solved the problem by using the Thai flag emoji from my phone's keyboard instead and it shows when I preview my signature at least.
