Maybe it's regional, but there seem to be a lot of phrases with Ia on Duolingo. An Indonesian friend says that this could cause confusion with iya.

Like anywhere else, it varies. If you are American and expect the wait staff at a good restaurant to dote on you expecting a tip, prepare to be disappointed., and expect some frank exchanges. In my experience, Paris is probably the worst, but they have come a long way in the last 40 years.

I am trying to remember the general French term that means a fruit syrup diluted with sparkling water. A very long time ago, I used to order this from cafés in Paris. My favourite was grenadine soda. Maybe it’s no longer called this.

This would have been in the 1970s.

I don't want to contradict L'académie française, but I can understand that Covid used as an implied adjective for virus (Le virus Covid) might appear to be masculine.

It's never good to generalise, but "generally", yes. It's Scots by the way.

This is something that surprised me too. Bon can actually be used as an adverb in some rare situations, particularly after the verbs faire and sentir. In this case Blanche is making the eggs very well.

Why is this translation wrong? He entered at a single point in time. I think either pendant que or lorsque could be used. Would a native speaker disagree?

Note: "se faire avoir" means "to be fooled". One of those expressions which cannot be translated literally.
