Re: Is "родом" a Ukrainian adverb?

The entry 'рід' in Академічний тлумачний словник (1970—1980) is quite extensive, so here I put just the relevant piece: ... [З] якого роду хто; Родом звідки, хто — уживається для визначення місця народження, національності, фаху і т. ін. кого-небудь. ... So, 'родом' is treated as the instrumental of...

Re: ке́ксик = cupcake?

At the end of the communist era, a lot of foreign words became popular in post-soviet countries, not only computer and other technical terms, but also food and drink names, like 'капкейки' and 'мафіни' dicussed above. Before, fresh bread with anything was called 'бутерброд' (yes, it's of German orig...

Sono un po' perplesso: ho pensato che 'crostino/crostini' è un antipasto italiano, non è ucraino, il nome è solo un trucco per vendere le cose più caro. Ma hai scritto 'your crostini' come se no fosse italiano. Forse è una cosa regionale?

@Basler Biker You're right, Ukrainian vowels sound different from Russian, as well as some consonants; moreover, some combinations in Ukrainian are next to impossible to pronouce correctly for most Russians, esp. ж/ч/ц/ш + і/ю/я

Perhaps I'm too pedantic, but I have a lot of remarks to the given recipes https://www.recipesfromeurope.com/galushki/ Usually milk is not used for such dough, even eggs — but, possibly, yeast (дріжджі) and/or whey (сироватка); the topping can be just fri...

What are some traditional Ukrainians foods? This bread is called коровай /korovay/ and I wouldn't say it's traditional food because it's strictly ceremonial: mostly for weddings and, sometimes, to welcome very-very important people.
