Yes, we Turks and the Mongols have lived together for so long that our languages include extensive borrowings from each other, mainly in agriculture, warfare and administration.

Re: The Boogeyman in different countries

I have never heard of the Karakoncolos. Apparently, it is a thing in the Northeastern Anatolia. But I have heard of the öcü and Gulyabani a lot growing up. The öcü is our Turkish equivalent of the bogeyman: an imaginary monster without a particular appearance, made up by adults to frighten children ...

Re: Çilek şekerin içinde. [Lesson: Postpositions]

Çilek şekerin içerinde is marked wrong because içer, as a noun, is not an actual word. To the other question, there is no real difference between and içeri as nouns; both are fine here:

  • Çilek şekerin içinde.

  • Çilek şekerin içerisinde.

Re: Perşembe akşamı [Lesson: Time]

What you see in perşembe akşamı is noun-compounding; perşembe and akşam are both nouns, so akşam takes the possessive -ı . However, in yarın akşam , you actually see two adverbs coming next to next; what you literally say is "tomorrow in the evening". So neither of them takes any suffix be...

Re: Who is going to pay the bill?

if a group has a meal together who is going to pay the bill? One person picks the tab? Is the total amount split equally among the guests? In Turkey, it depends on the level of intimacy and respect between the people: if you are with your friends or family, one of you will readily pick up the tab —...
