Re: comments and observations on Busuu

Once again, I can't recommend to take the A2 final exam test if you have not run through all lessons sequentially before. I am way past having done those. Not on Buusu, but both on duolingo and in the past. My high school Spanish was probably the equivalent of about three years of college Spanish. ...

Re: comments and observations on Busuu

End test or chapter checkpoint? A2 -> B1. But yeah, all words should be there. Sometimes there are 2-3 rows, aren't there?! Maybe you need to zoom out to see them all. zooming did nothing. Eventually, by accident, I found that the lower area scrolls separately, using two fingers on a Mac trackpad. ...

Re: comments and observations on Busuu

i took the premium trial today. I tried the A2 test-out. It began immediately rattling off a conversation with no suggestion as to what was about to happen. It seems that you are supposed to be filling in from the buttons bottom of the screen as it goes. Which would be more practical if it actually ...

comments and observations on Busuu

With many of us looking at new places to go, I figured threads to share observations would be useful. I spent time with Busuu today. It's not all of the way there (at most two or three words; you don't use whole sentences). It has more formal/explicit grammar explanations than Duolingo (OK, that's a...

Re: What's your new game plan?

I'm not sure what I'll end up doing. Duolingo as it was a couple of years ago was perfect for the way I learn and fill in knowledge. Typing from my own knowledge, rather than having a list of solution, was good for my retention. As was stopping and looking things up. For whatever reason, my retentio...

I would have, before all of the downgrades.

But this latest version isn't worth my time, free or not.

video game only on web version now? and where to go from here?

I was away for a couple of months. I logged in today, and it appears that the web version has gone over to the video game phone app! click on words instead of typing them, and juggle hearts? I'd been on the verge of a paid subscription when they dumped the forums, the single most useful tool it had ...

could this, from english, also use the present subjunctive for the second verb?

"sell" in this context would be used for both a recommendation that the sale occur at the time of the recommendation, or that it be something contemporaneous with the question.

The english would be better as, "it would be better for you to glue those broken plates."

This is one of the situations in wheich English does use the subjnctive mood.

"of marine life", "of under the sea", "of the sea".

"the marine world" is just odd and wouldn't be used.

for that matter, I'm not even sure what it means (other than referring to an amusement park in Northern California in the late 20th century!)

In english, we might use either "have seen" or "have ever seen", with the latter having a bit more emphasis.

any thoughts on duo's use of the preterite rather than the imperfect here? The "always" suggests ongoing, while the lack of a need to say it anymore suggests completion.

In contexts like, "we always used to go to the candy store", duo pretty consistently uses the imperfect.
