Re: Stopped getting "Your translation was accepted" e-mails - Anyone else?

Shock! I just saw that I got a "Your suggestion was accepted!" email yesterday. I think this is the first one I've gotten in years and years. I can't even remember how long ago I suggested it. I got one quite recently (February 26th) for Spanish. In my experience, sometimes they come thic...

Re: They introduced hearts on the web :(

Faced with the possibility of doing a commentary on. a story for 10 extra xp, which normally I would have. accepted, I declined it as Lord knows how many hearts I could have lost in the process. A perverse effect of this hearts system is that you just don't dare take unnecessary risks. [/quote] Sinc...

Has Duolingo shortened Spanish and English trees?

The English to Spanish tree used, I am pretty sure, to be over 200 sections long and now is "only" 179 sections. I realized this after I inexplicably dropped back twenty sections on both the English to Spanish and Spanish to English trees. I think I was in the late 110´s on the Spanish tre...

Re: They introduced hearts on the web :(

@ I thought the conversion factor was 1:10 The conversion rate seems to be variable. I started out with roughly 37,000 lingots and ended up with roughly 56,000-57,000 gems. (I had never used the app and hence had no existing gems.) I imagine they're tracking the retention rates and maybe other metr...

I guess it must be A/B testing again, as I still have lingots and no hearts. But well, sooner or later it's likely to come. I wonder how they will convert and merge the two "currencies". I had plenty of jems in the app at the time I deleted it from my devices, and have quite a few lingots...

Re: They introduced hearts on the web :(

Same issue as of tonight. I got through about half my normal number of lessons. If I go through a tougher patch and find I can´t make enough progress to maintain my streak, I´ll probably drop the course. There are other, less frustrating ways to practice. In unrelated news, I think they´ve expanded ...

Re: Duolingo now has dark mode!

I've had dark mode for a while now (weeks? a month or two?) and mostly like it, but for some reason, it reverts to the other mode daily, and I have to go into settings, change it back, and save it again.

Saving works for the rest of the session, but not overnight.

Are they going to remove the keyboard in both directions? So far, I can still type answers in my target language, but not in English. Without the keyboard, Duolingo is going to be all but useless. My experience is that I have a mix of word bank and keyboard with both and occasionally the option to ...

For what it´s worth, I had normal access to the button that changes a response from Word Bank to typing today. (For a day or two prior to that, my lessons started out with no option to change over to typing and then at some point switched spontaneously. )

For those who got the change previously, was there any notice given that it was being applied for you, or were you just presented with it with no notification?

I just got the update. Of course, like everyone else, I knew it was coming, but I was not personally notified in advance.

I just realized that if there’s ever a course update, the users who are already in the middle or at the end of their course will not be able to check out the new material. Without you know, restarting the whole tree, which is useless with the new layout. Uh, that hasn't been the case to date. In th...

You should be able to get more than that. There is double XP. Sometimes when you complete a lesson you will get an offer for double xp. It is really 20xp instead of 15. You should get 20 or 40 for capstone reviews. You should have the double XP timers. She's referring to the timer challenges. They'...

Oh, and I see that I missed one important point. Duolingo shakes things up pretty often for the trees that are most popular. For those trees, a student is, perhaps, more likely to despair of ever finishing a tree before the next big shake-up, rather than find themselves repeating the exact same mate...

Re: Until what limit is it worth it to continue working on a course?

For the longer trees, I believe most users hit level 25/30,000 xp well before finishing the tree. (The 1-25 level system is a remnant of an outdated system that was in place before the introduction of crowns and the addition of massive amounts of new material to some of the trees.) Many Duolingo par...

Use of the passive voice is often considered poor style in English <g>. 'They are destroying... ' would be a quite common way to say it.
